Let's face it: these tests are evil. They position themselves as the gatekeepers of your future yet they measure "skills" that are of questionable importance in high school, college, and the real world. What happens if you don't know a word like "perspicacity" on the SAT? After the fear, panic, and frustration subside, there's a good chance you'll miss the problem. But what happens if you're reading a text in college and the word "perspicacity" shows up? You look it up in the dictionary and move on unharmed. So much for the SAT's ability to accurately predict your college performance... These tests are no gauge of your true academic ability and potential for success. And it's great to see institutions such as the University of California begin to view them with a skeptical eye. Unfortunately, as of now they are still a hoop you must jump through to get to the college of your choice. My goal is to get you through that hoop as efficiently as possible. My approach to these tests will focus on augmenting your individual strengths and mitigating the impact of any weaknesses. We will thoroughly cover what you need to know for the test--nothing more and nothing less. Combining a review of math fundamentals and vocabulary with an array of test-taking strategies, our studies together will give you the knowledge, insight, and confidence you need to beat the tests and prove your academic merit where it really counts: at a college of your choice.

Some prospective clients ask me why they should work with me rather than with one of the major test preparation companies. My answer is simple: I offer personalized, community-based services that transcend the typical experience with a large company. My depth of experience (14 years +) is significantly greater than that of most individuals who teach for these companies. My commitment to my work is evidenced by my long track record and by the fact that my business perpetuates itself almost exclusively through word-of-mouth recommendations. This is my profession, not a sideline or source of supplemental income, and I am deeply committed to the success of my students. Speaking of success, my average SAT improvement for students during the past two years is 190 points, with actual improvements ranging between 90 and 340 points.

TIMELINE: Studies should begin a minimum of 6 weeks prior to your test date. For optimal results, 10 to 12 weeks are recommended. A typical, one-on-one student will spend approximately 20 hours with me preparing for the examination. Group instruction entails 25-35 hours of class.

EXPECTATIONS: Test-taking is a skill like any other, and as such it requires practice outside of our sessions together. Accordingly, you should plan to spend approximately thirty minutes to an hour per day reviewing and practicing your skills.
